Are you ready for Netflix’s original movie “Extraction” to have a sequel?
Extraction, a Netflix original film that premiered in 2020, will almost certainly have a sequel. The action thriller Extraction is inspired by the graphic novel Town by Ande Parks, Joe Russian, Anthony Russo, Fernando Leon Gonzalez, and Eric Skillman (child fights aside). As a result, it’s not surprising that the movie had the biggest premiere ever on Netflix, with an estimated 90 million households watching it within a month of its release.
In Sam Hargrave and Joe Russian’s Extraction, directed by Hargrave and written by Russian, Chris Hemsworth plays a new action hero with franchise potential. In his portrayal of him, former Australian special forces soldier Tyler Rake transforms into a black-ops mercenary. Rake was tasked in the first film with rescuing a crime boss’s kidnapped son.
As a result, he went above and beyond the call of duty in order to protect the kidnapped boy. Instead of simply endangering himself, he appeared to have died.
Of course, Rake, like any other heroic action figure, survives. The sequel to Extract has yet to be announced, but the first film already has a sizable fan base eager to see what happens next in the series.

Hargrave made his feature film debut with the first Extraction. Previously, he hinted that he might not want to direct the entire future Extraction film. In January 2021, Hargrave revealed to Collider

Joe Russo returns as a co-writer for Extract 2 with his work from the first film. The new film will also be produced by AGBO, Joe and Anthony Russo’s production company. According to reports, the AGBO team intends to expand the Extraction franchise beyond the sequel and create a shared cinematic universe similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A teaser trailer for Extract 2 was released during Netflix’s Tudum event in September 2021. You can see it above. The video begins with a recreation of Rakes’ final moments, including being shot and falling into a river. In a voiceover, Mahajan informs Tyler that he is drowning not because he fell into the river, but because he is submerged. Rake then begins to open his eyes and swim to the surface, defying all odds.
